Larry T. Gammons Scholarship Fund

The Larry T. Gammons Scholarship Fund was established in May of 2006 to honor the extraordinary contributions of “Mr. Larry” during his time at YouthBuild Louisville.

“Mr. Larry”, as the students called him, began his career as a teacher and strongly believed in the power of education. Mr. Larry later became an executive with the Ford Motor Company, from which he retired in 1997. After retirement, he sought out teaching opportunities once again and soon joined the Youthbuild Louisville Staff.

Mr. Larry showed a genuine interest in the students here at YouthBuild. He often focused on the “tough cases”; students discouraged and mistrusting of the educational system which had often let them down. Mr. Larry had a unique way of reaching these students and encouraging their academic pursuits. His kind words, gentle words, gentle ways and no-nonsense approach to teaching was well-received and earned him the respect of his students and peers alive. His unwavering support and commitment to students of YouthBuild Louisville garnered county-wide recognition in 2005.

Through Mr. Larry’s unwavering support, students have a renewed sense of accomplishment and a brighter future. The Larry T. Gammons Scholarship Fund is used to ensure that students can continue with their post-secondary education. We ask that you give generously, so that Mr. Larry’s influence will sow the greatest rewards.
