Thanks to you Louisville, YouthBuild Louisville was honored in Washington DC last week as SCORE ‘mentors to America’s small business’ presented the 3nd annual SCORE Awards honoring small businesses from across the nation. We walked away with the very prestigious award Outstanding Non-Profit Organization Sponsored by The Office Depot Foundation. Thank you for your continued support helping us to grow and succeed in our community.

Thanks to our faithful clients/customers/supporters, YouthBuild Louisville has been nominated to receive the award for Outstanding Non-Profit Organization Sponsored by The Office Depot Foundation at the 3rd annual SCORE Awards to be presented Sept. 15 in Washington, D.C. SCORE CEO Ken Yancey says, “The SCORE Awards celebrates and honors successful and innovative entrepreneurs who inspire us all and the small business advocates who support entrepreneurship in America.” Yancey adds, “As the economy works to recover from recession, these small business successes represent America’s success through innovation and job growth.”

YouthBuild Louisville, a local non-profit agency in Metro Louisville, provides its training participants with career skills in conservation, carpentry, wood working and landscaping.

YouthBuild Louisville (YBL) participants must be between the ages of 18-24 yrs. who need their GED or High School Diploma and have a desire to enter college, job placement or both at the program’s end. Students split their time between the classroom and construction and environmental projects.

In addition to job skills and on-the-job training, YBL students will participate in academic development that includes GED preparation, basic computer skills, and life skills programs and activities. The students completing the program will receive a Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate.

The cost for the year long program is free for qualifying students and the students receive regular performance incentives, $100/wk. for their time in the education classroom and then 6-9 dollars per hour when they are on a worksite.

After completing a 30-day trial, the participants may join the AMERICORPS EDUCATIONAL AWARD program whereby they can earn after 675 community service hours $1,800 in educational grants for tuition to any accredited college or trade school. The educational grants may be used up to seven years after their completion of the YBL program.

YBL is offering young adults 18 to 24 yrs a wide variety of opportunities in personal development, job readiness, leadership, academic achievement and financial aid. In addition, the students will have access to a network of staff and community partners committed to their success!
